For many of us the cold clear days bring more than just rosy cheeks, they also bring unpleasant dryness to the skin all over our body.
Nowadays, overall grooming is what matters most, not just taking care of your face.
What I would say to you … once your hands and feet are looking better, continue the same routine that got them there.
Keep moisturiser handy !! I always keep mine right next to the hand soap so I never forget to use it. A travel size hand moisturiser is easy to fit in your hand bag so whenever you’re on the go you are covered too.
Being a beauty therapist or a hairdresser means your hands are literally constantly in water, which makes them extremely dry, sometimes the skin can crack around the knuckles and even bleed.
The Dermalogica Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment is our firm favourite and our medicine.
This intense conditioning treatment relieves signs of ageing on dry, rough hands. It’s a non-greasy, fast-absorbing treatment which helps hydrate skin, minimise nail peeling, and shields against environmental damage. The formula helps reverse the signs of premature ageing with Vitamin A, while evening skin tone with brightening Licorice Extract and Vitamin C. Pro-Vitamin B5 and soothing Algae Extract hydrate, while Ginkgo Biloba, Grape Seed and Vitamin E leave hands softer and nails healthier.
If hyperpigmentation on the backs of your hands is your concern, you can blend MultiVitamin Hand and Nail Treatment with Solar Defense Booster SPF50.
My other top tip is to invest in a humidifier. If the air in your home becomes dry from twice daily or constant central heating use, you will be able to add back some moisture this way.
Wear gloves when you’re doing the dishes. Forgetting even once can lead to red, dry and itchy hands for days.
Make moisturising your hands and feet before going out a part of your daily routine.
It’s winter time and many of us will suffer from dry and cracked heels and feet
Getting the dry skin on your feet under control requires daily vigilance.
Here is my favourite DIY receipe that can help you repair your dry feet :
You will need:
2 tablespoons coconut oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
Melt the coconut oil in a pot and then add the essential oil.
Wash your feet and scrub with a pumice stone, wipe your feet using a towel and apply the warm oil over your feet .
Put on comfy socks and keep them on overnight. Do this on a daily basis to maintain soft feet.
The benefits of this home treatment include helping to get rid of toxins from the body, better quality and deeper sleep at night, improvement in circulation, an aid with headaches and migraines, plus it can help fight fungal and bacterial infections.
At Shine we have 2 blissful spa -like treatments for a cold winter’s day:
