7th Myth: “I don’t need to, I don’t have kids”

Fact: If we stop using our muscles they become weaker and can even start to shrink. This is called muscle atrophy. The pelvic floor muscles are prone to this and as we all have pelvic floor muscles we can all suffer the consequences of not exercising them. Although being pregnant is often linked to pelvic floor problems, it doesn’t follow that not having kids means you will automatically be OK. We can all be affected by muscle weakness through lack of use and everyone can benefit from doing PF exercises – including men.
