Valeria is a highly experienced complementary therapist with over 25 years practicing traditional acupuncture and shiatsu massage therapy and specialising in evidence based Integrated Healthcare and Lifestyle Medicine.
She has extensive clinical experience treating patients with fertility, pregnancy, long-term health, and age-related conditions. She holds a BSc (Hons) TCM Acupuncture from University of Westminster and was recently awarded a Distinction for her Master’s in Human Nutrition (St. Marys’ University, Twickenham). Her final thesis investigated the Vitamin D status and lifestyle characteristics of patients attending a fertility clinic.
Valeria has been a resident fertility acupuncturist since 2010 at the renowned Zita West clinic, working closely with gynaecologists and midwifes providing individually tailored care throughout IVF and other assisted reproductive treatments. She also supports individuals and couples trying to conceive naturally. Valeria is up to date with the most current research and attends continuing professional development training in the Women’s Health and fertility field.
Over the decades, she has developed special interest in working with all stages of pregnancy and conditions, including pelvic pain, preparation for labour and breech presentation using both shiatsu and acupuncture. She has also received training in the Spinning Babies method, which aims at optimising the physical relationship between the bodies of the mother and baby for the easing of childbirth.
Valeria has been working at Shine on the Green since 2009 practicing as a ‘generalist’ acupuncturist, helping people experiencing conditions such as musculosketal pain, headaches, digestive and mood issues as well as bringing her experience in the fertility field.
Her holistic approach, framed by the lifestyle medicine philosophy underlying Chinese Medicine, combines acupuncture treatment with additional interventions such as massage, dietary therapy and exercise when required and according to the specific needs of the patient.
Valerias’ experience also includes working with people of diverse background, ages and stages of health. As a shiatsu practitioner she worked for over six years in a project dedicated to support women living with HIV and their children. Between 2009 and 2016 she ran several acupuncture projects in surgeries and NHS settings for a Hackney based charity targeted at people on low incomes, social benefits, long term health conditions and the elderly. She also ran a clinic for Sickle Cell patients at the Homerton Hospital.
Her teaching experience and her later work alongside physiotherapists specialising in hydrotherapy rehabilitation, lead her to train in Watsu (water Shiatsu), at the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association in California in 1999. Valeria is also a qualified National Swimming coach in her native Argentina.
Valeria continues her professional development through courses with world renowned teachers including Japanese acupuncture with master Kiiko Matsumoto and Tung’s Acupuncture’ with Dr Wei Cheih Young among many. She has completed extensive training into adjunctive techniques such as moxibustion, electroacupuncture and cupping.
